Mold Making Systems

Our selection of mold making supplies includes two types of systems: Silicone and Urethane. The Silicone RTV Mold-Making System can be used to make any kind of mold. Silicone exhibits very low shrinkage and excellent long-term retention of rubber proprieties. Casting enthusiasts favor silicone when casting cement, vinyl, wax, plaster, low-melt metals, and various kinds of resin. For molds with fine details or when cushioning is needed, use the TAP Platinum Silicone molding kit. A urethane mold-making system offers excellent tear resistance and results in a flexible yet high-strength cure that’s convenient for two-piece molds.

We offer multiple sizes to choose from. Additional casting supplies are also available to customize your system and improve its performance. You can reduce the viscosity of our silicone RTV system and create a bubble-free coat with the help of our silicone thinner. Alternatively, you can increase the viscosity of your silicone mold by choosing TAP Thixotropic Additive.

If a latex mold is best for your project, take full advantage of the new and improved formula of TAP Premium Liquid Latex Rubber. This rubber formula is virtually odorless and requires as few as five layers, making it easy to create glove-type molds made of clay, ceramic, plaster, wood, or Plasticine clay. We also supply silicone putty to give you a head start on small molds with great detail. Enjoy superior release by stocking up on any of the release agents we carry.

Mold Making FAQ

Q1: What are the essential supplied needed for plastic mold making?

A1: To create plastic molds, you'll need a few key supplies. These typically include mold-making silicone or polyurethane, a mold box or frame, release agents, mixing tools, and a variety of sculpting tools. Depending on the complexity of your project, you might also require additional materials like support shells and reinforcements.

Q2: Can I use common household items for mold making?

A2: While some DIY projects might allow for the use of common household items, it's recommended to use specialized mold-making supplies for consistent and reliable results. Using proper mold-making supplies ensures your molds are precise and can be reused multiple times without compromising quality.

Q3: What release agents should I use for releasing plastic from molds?

A3: Release agents are essential for preventing your plastic creations from sticking to the molds. Depending on the materials you're using, you can choose from various types of release agents. For silicone molds, a silicone-based release agent is often recommended. For polyurethane molds, a polyurethane-specific release agent should be used. It's important to follow the manufacturer's guidelines to ensure the release agent works effectively without damaging your molds or casts.
