TAP PlasDrill Acrylic Drill Bits are specifically designed for drilling clean, chip-free holes in plastics like acrylic, plexiglass, perspex and polycarbonate. Unlike standard drill bits that can crack or damage plastic, these high-speed steel bits feature sharper tips and cutting edges to ensure smooth, precise results. Perfect for working with sheet plastics, PlasDrill Bits are a must for acrylic projects. For long-lasting performance, use them exclusively on plastic materials to prevent dulling.
When drilling plastics:
- Support the plastic on a rigid surface, e.g., scrap plastic or wood.
- Avoid drilling holes closer than 1/4" from the edge of the piece.
- Drill holes oversize to allow for expansion and contraction of plastic.
When drilling holes to support sheet by point fastening, two rules apply. First, the bolt hole diameter should be at least two times the diameter of the bolt. The larger diameter allows for adequate clearance for thermal and moisture expansion and contraction. Second, the distance from the hole center to the edge of the sheet should be at least 1.5 times the drilled hole's diameter. Please see the picture for a detailed diagram.
