Yakima Roof Box

Yakima Roof Box
Ok, this is cool. Thank you @cassidyn3555l for your support and for letting us share! Mike posted these step-by-step directions on how to fix that broken hinge on a roof box. He found that the replacement hinges he needed aren’t made anymore, and this route saved him from buying a new box. Check out how he did it! (we posted more pictures on our Instagram page @tapplastics)

“For those of you who adventure with a Yakima or Thule roof box, we recently experienced hinge failures and found an easy $15 DIY fix instead of an expensive repair or replacement. In our case, the #rocketbox is old enough they don’t make replacement hinges, and we didn’t want to buy a new box. Instead, pop the rivets and remove hinges. Disconnect connecting arm to separate the lid from the base. Pick up (4) 1” x 3” x 3/8” ABS plastic rectangles from @tapplastics or similar store. (2) 3” 3-hole medium duty outdoor hinges. (6) M6-1.00x25 flat/oval machine screws w/ (6) Nylock nuts and washers. Use hinges as a template to drill 1/4” or 6mm holes in ABS. Line up and clamp ABS pieces to roof box inappropriate location. Use ABS as a template to drill holes in roof box base and lid. Hinge need to mount on the bottom and open downward. Check alignment and reassemble.”
