Stainless Steel Standoffs for Signs

Metal Standoffs for Signs and Frames

A set of stainless steel standoffs will add depth and sleek modern style to your wall display. What are standoffs? They are a special type of extended wall fastener that gives signs, picture frames, graphics holders, directory boards and other hangings a three-dimensional effect. Standoffs are also used to mount control panels, server racks and other electronics to improve airflow so they don’t overheat.

Stainless steel standoffs are more durable and elegant than plastic standoffs. They create a three-dimensional effect that makes items more noticeable and reduce moisture buildup to reduce the growth of mold and mildew. Unlike spacers, a threaded standoff is self-securing so you know your signage or computer components will stay in place. No special tools are required for installation, making them easy to use in homes as well as businesses.

How Standoffs Work

These threaded separators contain a cap, barrel and washer that lets you add a 3/4-inch space between the sign and the mounting surface. They are ideal for clear acrylic and polycarbonate sheets and work with wood, metal and other materials up to a half-inch (14mm) thick. A standoff can be added to many wall types as well, including brick, concrete, wood and drywall. Note that sign materials must be at least 0.16 inches (4mm) thick to use standoffs.

To use a stand-off screw, you first drill the appropriate-size holes in the frame or sign material. Position your artwork or object on the surface you plan to mount it to and more where the standoffs will go. Attach the bases to the mounting surface using flathead screws (not included), then place a washer on each base. Add the sign or artwork, put the matching washers over the holes and hand-tighten the caps. For certain wall materials like concrete and drywall, anchors may be needed to ensure the screws “bite” and stay in place. Reasons to Use a Stand-off Screw Fastener

Stand-off signage has all sorts of applications in residential and commercial settings. Use to showcase new artwork, highlight posters and advertisements, hang name plates and informational panels, make entrance signs more noticeable and much more. They’re not just for walls, either — you can attach frames and signs to tables, counters and desks using threaded standoffs. See the image gallery for inspiration.

This standoff hardware is made of solid stainless steel, an alloy highly resistant to rust and corrosion and less conductive than other metals. The stand-offs go directly through the panel, meaning a more secure mounting that is still easy to maintain and update. Watch our video below for a demonstration of how to install stainless steel standoffs using a drill and flathead screws (not included). If you’re ordering pre-cut sign material from TAP Plastics, we can add the required holes for a small labor fee. Three sizes of standoff mounts are available, giving you options based on the size of the signage and how prominent you want the standoffs to be.
