Unique Tractor Display
Ken Bonnema purchased acrylic mirror and mirror mastic adhesive to display his John Deere model art project. The John Deere model is actually only half of a tractor (split on a vertical centerline) mounted on a 14” x 10” mirror that is only 1/8” thick. The acrylic mirror was chosen because it is thin enough to create the illusion of an entire truck, rather than two halves separated by a gap. Ken said that it is not a toy model tractor cut in half but was drawn up from old photos and fabricated by hand from brass sheet, tubing and steel wire. The model was painted in authentic John Deere colors and mounted to the mirror. The wheels are free-turning along with its mirrored counterpart. The 3D appearance of the finished piece is so convincing that viewers have to look behind the mirror to verify the other half isn’t back there.
